Dear Friends and Neighbours,
Thank you for your continued interest in the Silk Street Campaign and concern about the proposals for the redevelopment of 1 Silk Street, London EC2.
We understand that plans have been submitted by the developers to the City of London but have not yet been verified by Planning, so are not yet posted for public comment or submissions by statutory bodies. But in the meantime we wanted to share this message of support for BQA's Silk Street campaign from the Twentieth Century Society, on the basis of the scheme that was previously published:
‘The proposed development at 1 Silk Street is out of scale with the surrounding area. It will have a significant negative impact on key views of the Barbican from many vantage points, whether locally or London-wide. The Barbican is one of the most important post-war residential and cultural developments in the country, if not the world, and its status as a prominent architecturally outstanding London landmark should be respected as much as the fabric itself.'
We will be in touch about proposed actions as soon as there is definitive news to share.
