We were treated to a wonderful evening of song from these two rising stars.
Bethany looks after the Solis Choir, a group of young singers who delight the congregation at our parish church, St Giles' Cripplegate, at sung evensong on the first Sunday of each month at 4 pm.
George took time out from his exciting season at Glyndebourne Opera where he is appearing in Bizet's Carmen and Handel's Giulio Cesare. He gave us a great selection including heartfelt lieder, Herbert Howell's King David and a very amusing and spirited rendition of Benjamin Britten's Crocodile.
A real high point of the evening was the World Premier of Bethany's arrangement of Shakespeare's Sonnet 18, Shall I compare Thee to a Summer's Day? We were very fortunate to hear the first public performance of this delightful piece which is destined to become a modern classic.
After the concert we withdrew to the lounge for wine and nibbles and a chance to meet the performers and catch up with neighbours. Altogether a fun evening that was hailed as a great success. Watch this space for future events!
With grateful thanks to Tudor Rose Court Residents' Association and St Giles' Church Cripplegate who sponsored the evening.
