The Culture Mile Business Improvement District have agreed to part-fund our project in 2025. This, combined with an extremely generous donation from a private individual and funds already raised from other events, has helped us to realise our long held dream of obtaining a digital piano.
The Culture Mile BID panel commented - 'The panel would like to offer match funding for the £2,000 [residents] have already raised for the piano'.
This gives us sufficient funds to purchase a Yamaha CLP-865GP Clavinova Digital Grand Piano together with a bench and headphones. This instrument has the look and feel of an acoustic piano without the expense of having to have it regularly tuned. Professional musicians, students and Tudor Rose Court residents wishing to learn to play will all find this piano meets their requirements.
We are extremely grateful to the Culture Mile Business Improvement District for their generous support of this project. Further details are available on the Piano page.
At the end of March, 2025, our dishwasher (located in the residents' lounge) suffered an irreparable fault. The drain pump was operating constantly and the machine was unusable. Your Residents' Association officers held an emergency meeting to decide what action should be taken. These points arose out of that meeting:
The dishwasher had been purchased by the Residents' Association some 12 years ago.
The cost of employing an engineer to review any possible repair would be greater than the value of the machine.
The most cost-effective solution was to replace the machine. This would be a decision that would need to be ratified at the next meeting of the Association in July, 2025.
The need for a working dishwasher was immediate as it is regularly used at least twice a week and we had several large events planned that would require the use of a dishwasher before the next meeting of the Association.
The Residents' Association had recently been given a Waitrose voucher for £200 from the construction company working a 1 Golden Lane. At their last meeting, the Residents' Association agreed to delegate the decision as to how to best spend this money for the benefit of all residents to the officers of the Association. Your officers agreed that this money should be put towards the cost of a new dishwasher as this would potentially be a long-term benefit to all residents. If the purchase was made from John Lewis, the Waitrose voucher could be used to part-fund the purchase.
The officers instructed the Vice Chairman and Treasurer to go ahead with the purchase of a new machine as soon as possible and the members of the Residents' Association should be asked to ratify this decsision at their next meeting in July, 2025.
On 3rd May, 2025 a new dishwasher was purchased from John Lewis at a total cost of £343.95, to include delivery on 8th May, installation and removal of the old machine.
On 12th June, 2024 we learned that our bid for funding from the Culture Mile Business Improvement District has been unsuccessful. We have requested feedback on our application as well as a list of successful applicants and will post any response here.
Every home should have a piano! We are looking to raise money to purchase a Yamaha digital grand piano (full details here)
Officers of our residents' association have submitted a bid for funding for a new digital grand piano from the Culture Mile Business Improvement District. We understand the closing date for bids is 24th May, 2024, so we hope to hear the result of our application soon after that. Last year about one in three applications were successful, so keep your fingers crossed that we will be one of the successful bids in 2024!
Our dining room chairs are original to the building and need upgrading. We need to define what is required so that we can start to raise funding for their replacement or refurbishment. Should we go for chairs with a similar functionality? Having arms that help people to sit down and get up seem to be ideal. Should we go for something a bit more up-to-date? The chairs in the lounge were supplied by Shackletons Ltd (the family company of the antarctic explorer). The lounge chairs seem to be wearing well, so should we go for something from the same company? Have a look at their dining range for ideas.
Alternatively we could go for something completely different. Had we succeeded in gaining all the funding we requested for the lounge, we were going to include a couple of Philippe Starck chairs that were lightweight and easy to carry, and could have been used occasionally in the garden.
See what you can find and email vicechairman@trcra.org.uk with your suggestions.
An increasing number of residents own bicycles. We need to find somewhere in the building to house bicycles. Perhaps a temporary store could be found in the lower ground level. Another suggestion has been to have wallp-mounted racks in the bin store - this would allow direct access from outside. A permanent solution will involve costs and we need to decide on a solution and beign to raise money to cover the cost.
